Abstract: The goal of this study was to increase the sound transmission loss through a double wall panel in the mass-air-mass resonance frequency range by active control of the sound field inside the panel cavity. The first part of the paper focuses on the identification of the structural modal behaviour of the two panels, as well as the acoustic mode shapes in the cavity between the panels. The second part of the paper is concerned with the design, implementation and tuning of a robust feedback control system that increases the panels transmission loss. As actuators, two loudspeakers in the cavity between the panels are used, which control the pressure field such that the radiated sound power from the sending panel is minimised. For the sensing, a novel concept is introduced that is based on measurements inside the cavity only. No microphones in the sending or receiving room are necessary. The experimental results show that the designed control system can significantly improve the sound transmission loss in the desired frequency range. Further Information |
